Brian Chatterton


Brian Chatterton, appointed in 1970, received a Bachelor of Arts (Natural Sciences) degree from Trinity College Dublin in 1965, and a Ph.D. from the Australian National University in 1970. He worked for a year as a senior demonstrator (1969-1970) for the Australian National University before coming to the University of Alberta. For a period, from 1971 - 1976, he spent up to 6 weeks each summer working as a consultant paleontologist/stratigrapher, mapping regions of western North America. This work provided the opportunity to do field work in a wide variety of remote regions at no cost

In July 1989, he was appointed as Chair of the Department for five years (1989-1994).
